Improving healthcare delivery to women with polycystic ovary syndrome

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the most common endocrinopathy of women of reproductive age. It is associated with a myriad of multi-systemic medical complications spanningmetabolic, psychiatric, dermatologic and reproductive systems. Unfortunately, traditional medical health services have often fallen short in addressing the complex needs of these women. Our research project aims to transform the landscape of PCOS health services, ensuring comprehensive and patient-centric care for affected women. With a primary focus on exploring and analyzing existing care models across various healthcare settings, we will conduct in-depth assessments of different healthcare delivery approaches, evaluating their strengths, weaknesses, and potential for improvement. The overall PhD program will employ a multi-faceted approach, integrating general biostatistics, systematic review skills, and qualitative research methodologies. By utilizing these diverse research skills, we will extract meaningful insights from a wide range of data sources, enabling a comprehensive understanding of the current state of PCOS healthcare delivery. Our systematic review process will involve meticulous examination of existing literature, including academic papers, clinical guidelines, and relevant healthcare policies. Through this extensive review, we will identify gaps in knowledge, pinpoint discrepancies in care delivery, and identify potential areas for enhancing PCOS services. Additionally, we will actively engage with patients, healthcare providers, and policymakers using qualitative research methods. Through insightful interviews and focus groups, we will gain firsthand perspectives on the challenges and opportunities within PCOS healthcare delivery. This direct engagement will facilitate the co-creation of a patient-centered framework, addressing the unique needs and preferences of women with PCOS. By synthesizing our research findings, we will develop a best practice framework for PCOS health services. This transformative framework will serve as a guiding document for healthcare providers, outlining evidence-based recommendations and strategies to optimize the management and care of women with PCOS. Our ultimate goal is to empower women with improved healthcare access, better outcomes, and enhanced quality of life.
