Description
Diseases such as SLE (lupus) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) are treated by glucocorticoids (steroids), because these drugs are highly effective. However, they have very significant side effects. We have made novel discoveries in the mechanisms of action of glucocorticoids, in order to unlock targets through which we can work towards a safe steroid mimic. This work is now at the stage of pushing towards a drug discovery program with interest from international partners, and student projects will have a major impact on advancing this program towards translation and commercialisation, providing therefore a learning experience that bridges science with translation.
