Exploring the Role of Nutrition in Managing Perimenopausal Transition

Description
Perimenopause is the transition period in which women experience changes in reproductive hormones resulting in significant decrease in circulating estrogens and increase in follicle-stimulating hormone. These hormonal changes accompanied by reduction in energy expenditure and accumulation of abdominal fat mass. The alterations in body composition contribute to higher cardiometabolic risk including lipid profile and glucose homeostasis abnormalities. Since this period can be the time point for intervention strategies to maintain overall health in women, this PhD aims to explore the effect of diet in perimenopausal women with the goal of reducing cardiovascular disease risk factors, optimising wellbeing and management of psychological symptoms.
