Implementing lifestyle intervention in pregnancy to improve the health of women and babies - Domestic students only

Description
Women are gaining access weight with adverse health outcomes for themselves and the next generation. This is accelerated in and around the pregnancy. Our team has developed an effective suite of lifestyle interventions proven to prevent excess gestation weight gain, reduce gestational diabetes, pre-eclampsia, caesarean section, preterm birth and neonatal intensive care admission. However these interventions are not being implemented into routine clinical care. This exciting project will focus on taking evidence into practice through a large-scale randomised controlled trial and implentation research. The randomised controlled trial will involve 200 women in pregnancy and is part of an international large-scale study on an app based healthy pregnancy support program for high-risk women. The implementation research will involve taking predominantly online and phone coaching interventions into routine care for all pregnant women. Skills in clinical research and implementation research will be acquired as well as content knowledge in improving health for mothers and babies in pregnancy. Leadership mentoring and career development will also be provided. The successful applicant will join an internationally leading multidisciplinary team with over 45 PhD students embedded in clinical care. Additional professional development is provided, along with strong collegiality and support.
