Improve Stroke Prevention Knowledge in Australia (potentially for a marketing student or related discipline)

Description
Project Overview: Stroke is common, affecting an estimated 1 in 4 people in their lifetime - but stroke is also highly preventable. Of the 38,000 strokes that occur in Australia each year at least 30,000 of these are preventable through effective management of risk factors such as smoking, inadequate diet, high blood pressure and physical inactivity. In 2020, the direct costs of stroke to the Australian economy was $6.2 billion with a further $26 billion lost due to disability and premature deaths. The Stroke and Ageing Research Group adopts a trans-disciplinary approach to research and clinical translation in the fields of cerebrovascular disease (acute stroke, imaging, small vessel disease, stroke prevention, public health) and brain ageing (vascular and metabolic contributions to neurodegeneration, dementia and Alzheimer’s disease). Project Goals: 1. Enhanced participant recruitment: We have several exciting health promotion projects requiring the recruitment of a large number of participants from the general population. For example, Love Your Brain aims to test a digital platform to enhance stroke prevention knowledge among Australians. 2. Increase awareness and knowledge: We aim to raise awareness of stroke in the Australia, including information on risk factors and prevention strategies, as well as, warning signs, and treatment options 3. Facilitate behaviour change: We aim to encourage healthy lifestyle changes to reduce stroke risks, such as regular exercise, healthy eating, and smoking cessation. This includes encouraging individuals to seek medical attention promptly if they experience stroke symptoms. Role of the Marketing (or related discipline) Student: The marketing student will play a crucial role in: • Developing marketing strategies: Creating an innovative and effective marketing campaign across multiple channels which resonate with the target audience of Love Your Brain. • Managing social media: Developing and implementing a social media strategy that elevates our online presence and delivers key messages about stroke prevention. • Creating marketing materials: Designing content such as brochures, flyers, newsletters and videos. • Collaborate with industry leaders: Work with internal teams, industry leaders and partners to tailor your campaign and brand voice for effective health promotion. • Conducting market research: Gathering feedback from users and stakeholders to guide decision making. This project offers a unique opportunity for a marketing student to make an impact on a significant public health initiative. Be part of a purpose-driven team and gain valuable experience in digital health and health promotion.
