Lifestyle management in women with polycystic ovary syndrome

Description
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrine disorder affecting reproductive-aged women. PCOS is associated with reproductive (menstrual irregularity, infertility and pregnancy complications), metabolic (metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease) and psychological (anxiety and depression) co-morbidities. Lifestyle management (diet, physical activity and behavioural advice) for weight gain prevention or weight loss is the first-line treatment for PCOS according to NHMRC-approved guidelines. The candidate will have an opportunity to be part of a multidisciplinary team including dietitian, psychologists and endocrinologists to be involved in stakeholder engagement to co-design and implement a model of care for lifestyle and weight management for women with PCOS. This work will involve a randomised controlled trial of the model. Monash Centre for Health Research Implementation has a strong national and international track record for implementation research. Within this research program, there is ample opportunity for the candidate to conduct independent research with the support of a research team with extensive experience in implementation and translational research.
