Promotion of healthy work and prevention of harm to health at work

The Monash Centre for Occupational and Environmental Health has a range of projects underway involving e.g. work in: aluminium production; petroleum production; firefighting; stone benchtop workers; tunnelers; aged care workers; shift workers. Our work explores risks of e.g. silicosis; cancer and mortality caused by PFAS and other workplace hazards. Projects can be created for and with students to enable them to fulfil the needs of their qualification and will usually lead to publication in a peer-reviewed journal. Projects with us will usually involve epidemiological research methods and analysis of primary or secondary data. Some of our work is closely linked with policy makers and encourages a student to develop skills in this area, including summarising research in a succinct and meaningful way to inform policy or clinical guidance. Our group hosts the Masters and Graduate Diploma of Occupational and Environmental Health and students with us may have opportunities to teach and/or tutor on these courses, if this is of interest.
