Description
Asthma affects approximately one in nine Australians and is one of the most common conditions treated in General Practice. In May 2023 a group of leaders in asthma care convened a meeting that identified a number challenges facing patients with asthma and the provision of care for these patients in Australia. Known as the Future of Asthma in Australia, there is an opportunity for a student to conduct a research project with the Department of General Practice to drive new awareness and new understanding of what patients need and want when they engage with health professionals as part of their asthma care.
Our Research Environment
As a research student in the Department of General Practice you will have access to supervision from international and national leaders in primary care research and education in a supportive and collaborative research environment. Research students are linked with a research group working within one of our areas of research excellence and able to draw upon expertise from across the department to support quantitative, qualitative and mixed methods research. You will have opportunity to develop primary care research skills and understanding of ethics through workshops and seminars while gaining exposure to a wide variety of primary care research methods and topics through attendance at a weekly Departmental academic seminar series. Funding is provided to support research costs and activities like attending conferences and publishing your research in medical journals. An active early career research group provides a structure for informal support and learning amongst peers.
